I have a background in journalism, television (public tv and cable) and non-broadcast video.

Journalism:
A range of skills that permeate many aspects of video production, as well as life: interviewing, writing, editing, questioning, accuracy, tack and respect.

Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Talk (Sixth grade, Seaford, Long Island) – all the class gossip, news, jokes and sightings that would fit on two typewritten pages, with fanciful layout and occasional hand-drawn illustrations.  Newsstand price “only
2 cents!”

Editor-in-Chief, Argus Magazine (University of Maryland) – inventive, provocative student feature magazine.  Also reporter and columnist for daily newspaper, The Diamondback.

Journalism major, business administration minor, and
tv and film courses, too.

Reporter/feature writer, The Paper (weekly culture,
arts & politics) and Extra (the Sunday magazine of
The News-American
), Baltimore.

Editor/writer for magazine and newsletters for school services of WNVT, Northern Virginia Public TV.  I took advantage of the opportunities there and began writing dramatic instructional scripts, and then shifted into productions (see below).

Visual Experience:
When I was 11 years old, I traded with a friend a model airplane I built for his Kodak Brownie Starflash 127 film camera (large negatives, excellent fixed lens, gigantic flash).  Wow, creating great pictures was fun! And easy!

Director, Editor, Production Manager, WNVT-TV – Directed dozens of studio and remote shows, live and taped.  Including public affairs, concerts, auctions, instructional, dramatic.  As production manager, hired, scheduled and trained crew and volunteers;  managed productions.

New York interlude:  freelance shooting and writing (screenplays, one optioned).

Videographer, Producer, Director, Editor, Operations Director, Video Software Associates, Arlington, Virginia.
VSA was a pioneer in interactive video using dramatic simulations.  Working with government, corporate and
military clients, I performed multiple functions, including shooting with our Betacam cameras, editing, and
producing and directing many, many shows, local and
afar. I also kept the books for the company.

And, since 1997 – Uptown Productions, where I
continue to direct, produce, edit, write and shoot
creatively and efficiently, working from my home office
in Washington, DC, my editing office in Arlington, at
clients’ facilities, or on location.
